Lomandra Spicata – Let’s hear it for our native plants, those robust souls that grow like crazy because they feel at home.
Lomandra Spicata is one of those tough evergreen beauties that originate here meaning she’ll grow in a wide range of soils without fuss and tolerate heat or frosts without bothering you too much
She has flat green tufted leaves that can reach 80cms long and produces clusters of brilliant orange-coloured fruit in summer. She prefers damp soil, and if you can give her a well-watered spot she’ll reach a metre in width.
As well as looking totally tropical, architectural and fresh the Lomandra Spicata is a sure-fire way to prevent soil erosion. Simply plant a large number of them together and your soil is in safe hands.
Oh, and she’s also the host plant for our rare skipper butterfly – wildlife lovers sign up right here.
