Croton Excellent
This good-looking guy is traditionally used in the garden where his long colourful leaves make a dramatic focal point in a container or straight in the soil. He’s a sure-fire hit in a tropical garden, providing structure and year-round colour.
Excellent differs from his Croton cousins with wider leaves and a more upright form. He’s a stately, more formal plant than say Bush-On-Fire, but still has brightness in those green, red, pink, yellow veined leaves.
With a bit more love and attention, Croton Excellent can be kept as a houseplant to energise the lounge, bathroom or bedroom.
Pop this Croton in free-draining soil and water once he’s gone dry. The more bright but indirect light you can give this guy the happier and more colourful he’ll become.Â
Quick Facts:Â
- What to use me for: I bring year-round colour to a tropical garden border, brighten the boring deck in a container, and enjoy a windowsill in your home.
- I grow to: I’m large at 1-1.2 metres tall and wide in your garden soil, but will stay smaller in a container.
- Where to place me: Full sun to part shade outside and filtered, indirect sunlight inside.
- How far to space me: Give me a metre of elbow room.
- Soil Conditions: I like moist but free-draining potting mix.
